WHAT IS ERGONOMICS?
Ergonomics is often referred to as “Human Factors” and the terms are interchangeable. Ergonomics
is an interdisciplinary applied science which aims to match the demands
of products, jobs and places of work with the people who use them, in a
holistic manner, taking into account physical, cognitive, social,
organisational and environmental implications and impediments.
An Ergonomist,
therefore, seeks in a cost effective manner, where possible, to
optimise the interface between the person, the organisation and the
environment leading to increased productivity, improved health &
safety and reduced costs resulting in a more stable workforce and
increased profitability for the organisation.
Ergonomics is rapidly becoming mandatory in the work place.
